I know exactly what you mean when you say that the characters have taken on a life of their own. It's like looking through a window and watching the story unfold... Have you thought of self publishing?
I am chasing publication right now but if nothing happens the way I hope it will, then I will be looking into self publishing next summer. Things going on behind the scenes right now so fingers crossed, but I have a back up plan. xx
